Welcome to the Asian Bioinformatics Research and Education Network (ABREN), a non-profit organization to promote collaborative research and education in bioinformatics. The organization was established in 2004 under a support from Kyushu Institute of Technology, Fukuoka Japan. We have held four online training workshops on bioinformatics (in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010) using the Internet to provide multimedia lectures, and the last workshop draw 1,869 participants from 76 countries. ABREN received an NPO status from Japanese government in 2009. We are getting ready for the 5th workshop from December, 2011.
Because of increased interest in the distant education, we would like to put more effort on the online workshop. We are now building a new ABREN system to expand the scope of the ABREN activity. In the new system, we provide some on-line lectures all the year round (to open public or to registered members), in addition to the regular closed workshop. We will also expand the field beyond bioinformatics, and provide various styles of educational materials (tutorials/demos of softwares and databases; experimental protocols; programming; lectures for laymen, etc.). We plan to finish the new system by the end of the next workshop so that we can transfer to the new system.
In order to take advantage of free participation to the workshop, please make registration. You can make registration through the ABREN site or at the workshop site. If you participated in the last workshops, you do not need to make registration again.
ABREN runs on a volunteer basis. We would appreciate if you support us to continue its activities.
